Charity Auction for Haiti Appeal

Charity Auction for Haiti Appeal

19/01/2010

Charity wine auction raising money for the Haiti earthquake appeal.

On Tuesday 12 January 2010 an earthquake measuring 7.0-magnitude struck Haiti and caused widespread devastation and mass casualties.

The Pan American Health Organization now confirms that over 75,000 people perished in the earthquake. The Haitian government has also estimated that 1.5 million have been left homeless and face an unpredictable future without shelter.

Ban Ki-moon (current Secretary-General of the United Nations) "The heartbreaking scenes I saw yesterday compels us to act swiftly and generously today and over the longer term," Ban said. "The Haitian people need to see that today is better than yesterday. They need to believe that the future will be better than the past."

Initial estimates indicate that three million people are badly affected and need immediate aid.

As part of a worldwide appeal to raise funds, for humanitarian relief and much needed supplies Sydney based, Empire Auctions will be launching a series of charity wine auction with proceeds going to the Australian Red Cross appeal for the Haiti disaster.

Empire Auctions would like to take this opportunity to thank a number of wineries and wine distributors who have kindly donated wine for this fundraising auction. We would also like to thank www.boozemonkey.com.au for their support and promotion of this event which will begin on Monday 25th January 2010 at 9am and last for 14 days.  Items to be auctioned will be available for viewing prior to the start of the auction.
